Being in medical sales often comes with the feeling of being “swamped.” You’re emailing, calling, and visiting clients on the road. This doesn’t include the time it takes to track critical details or the added pressure of sales goals you’re expected to meet.
While this sounds stressful as a whole, there are some medical sales reps who have their busy-ness under control. They have full days, yes. But they also have time chiseled into their schedules for vacations, self-care, and even sales training to stay up-to-date on the latest trends and tools.
Then there are the few and far between who are actually not busy enough. This lack of busy-ness is frequently due to a simple lack of effective scheduling and time management.
Unfortunately, the majority end up in the category of full-on swamped. Their constant medical sales busy-ness leads to burnout, loss of clients, and — worst of all — poor mental and physical health. In fact, 77 percent of respondents in a Deloitte report said they experienced employee burnout at their current job. Another 29 percent of respondents said they’re working long hours or on the weekends.
Today, we’re challenging you to understand your own daily busy-ness. Are you putting in enough time to succeed in medical sales? Is your schedule enhancing both your professional and personal life? Or are you running yourself into the ground, resulting in detriment to your career and yourself?
Take our quiz below to find out if busy-ness is actually harming your career, rather than helping it. The most important thing to remember is to be honest not just with the quiz, but with yourself. Then, take our resources to find a path that’s best for you.
