Kane looks to increase biotechnology sales with new bone tissue patent

Aug 30, 2011 02:27 PM
The Canadian-based Kane Biotech said it is eyeing the competitive global biotechnology sales market with a new patent on its bone tissue regeneration product.

Company officials said the patent covers its new bone tissue regenerating fusion innovation based on its competence stimulating peptide (CSP) oral care technology, used to help grow bone cells.

Gord Froehlich, Kane Biotech president and chief executive officer, said that the invention can be used to help repair dental bone defects, fractures and for the possible prevention of osteoporosis.

"In addition to antimicrobial activity against dental cavity and periodontal diseases associated bacteria, we are excited to learn our CSP-based technology has potential to be used in combination with bone tissue regenerating products for the treatment of diseases and defects related to bone loss and bone regeneration,"Froehlich added.

The global market for bone tissue regeneration is more than $32 billion a year.

Kane currently has a number of biotechnology-based products in the development and commercialization stages, including Aledex, which has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the prevention of clinical infections, and DispersinB, a topical wound treatment.
